Michele Chitwood, CIC
Account Executive

Michele has been in the insurance industry for 19 years.  She began her insurance career as a commercial lines underwriter with Indiana Insurance Company. After 5 years, she took a position with General Casualty as both a marketing representative and commercial lines underwriter serving northern Indiana. In 1996, after spending nine years working for insurance companies analyzing commercial accounts, Michele became a commercial salesperson for Waterfield Insurance Agency.  In 2003, Michele was promoted to Vice President of Waterfield Insurance Agency. In this position, Michele was not only responsible for sales, but was also involved in many phases of management within the agency.  Waterfield sold their insurance agency late in 2006 and Michele joined McGowan Insurance Group as a commercial sales executive.

Michele graduated from Indiana University in 1988 with Bachelor degrees in Marketing and Business Administration. She has been in the insurance industry since graduation.

Michele is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and has obtained her Associate in Underwriting (AU) degree. She received an award for Academic Excellence for the AU program, which is only given to the top four students nationally.  She also served as Valedictorian, was on the National Honor Society, the Society of Distinguished American Students and the Deans Honor List. Michele was given the Altrusa Merit Award, which is given to the top female student.  She is also a member of MASOMA, an Honorary Academic Society.

In 2004, Michele was honored with the prestigious award of “Agent of the Year” for the state of Indiana from the Independent Insurance Agents Association. This is a very distinguished award that had never been awarded to a female under the age of 40.
