After working for the Chubb Group in their Department of Financial Institutions in Chicago, Hugh returned home in 1995 to join the family business. He entered the Agency as Treasurer, Vice-President, and minority owner. In 1998 he was promoted to Sr. Vice President at McGowan. At this time, Hugh also received his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter Designation.

Today, Hugh M. and his father, Hugh B., work closely together as Agency Principals. As acting Sales Manager for the Agency’s nine Producers, Hugh still handles a significant book of business while advising his staff on how to retain and grow their own books of business.

Hugh remains active in the CPCU Society and within the local, Central Indiana Chapter serving as Board member, Treasurer, and Secretary. He has also been active with the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana (IIAI) Young Agents Committee (YAC). In 2001 he served as YAC Chairman, and in 2002 Hugh was awarded the IIAI Young Agent of the Year Award.

Hugh is an active member of the Junto of Indianapolis, a member of the Penrod Society, and served as the Gates Committee Chair in both 2004 and 2005. Additionally, Hugh is an advisor on the Notre Dame (ND) Alumni Club of Indianapolis Board. In 1998 and 1999 he chaired the ND Club’s Golf Outing, and the Student Networking Night for the last three years. Hugh is the Vice-President of Membership at Notre Dame.
