Hugh B. McGowan, CPCU
President/CEO

Hugh B. McGowan joined his father and one assistant at the McGowan & Brosnan Agency in 1969. Hugh now serves as President and CEO of McGowan Insurance Group, Inc. where he developed books of business through acquisitions and producer recruitment.  Mr. McGowan has served on several Insurance Company Advisory Councils.  Hugh has been active with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers, serving as President in Central Indiana in 1991 and President of the state association in 1998 during their 100th Year.  Hugh is past recipient of the state association’s Agent of the Year Award and has received their Public Image Award twice.  Mr. McGowan served as National President of the CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters) Society in 2004 and prior to that was involved in the Society as Regional Vice President and National Director, and past president of the Central Indiana Chapter where he was awarded their Achievement Award for his contributions and professionalism.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Hugh is past president of the Indianapolis Alumni Association and was presented their “Award of the Year.”  Mr. McGowan is also past “Irish Citizen of the Year” and was named a “Sagamore of the Wabash” by the governor.  Hugh has served on the Boards of both Catholic Social Services and Cathedral High School (16 years), and as Chairman of Executive Search Committees and Scholarship Committees for several organizations.  He is past President of the Serra Club of Indianapolis and past President of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) where he was a recipient of their St. John Bosco Youth Award.  Mr. McGowan is a member of the Columbia Club, Economic Club, Indiana and Indianapolis Chambers of Commerce, and an Associate Member of the 500 Festival where he has served on the Mayor’s Breakfast and Parade Committees.

Hugh sees his major role as managing the Agency.  Mr. McGowan considers his greatest accomplishment coaching his sons and daughter in basketball and baseball for more than fifteen years.

Hugh will always be extremely grateful to his father for affording him the opportunity to work in this family Agency – one with a reputation of such moral character and professionalism.
